The iOS 18.1 beta 2 is rolling for developers with new improvements for Apple Intelligence over the first beta release some time ago.

This is the first time Apple has revealed a major upgrade prior to rolling a base version. However, that is directly related to the device compatibility with the new AI features that it has planned for a few devices.

iOS 18 comes with an array of new changes in the user interface. These new capabilities will be available for all eligible iPhone users starting from iPhone XR. On the other hand, Apple Intelligence will be available to iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max from the previous generation of devices.

That’s it, no other devices in the past segment will run new generative AI functions. At least that’s what Apple says. Therefore, it is developing two separate software. The base version will be released this fall for all devices and iOS 18.1 for specific models.

A previous report suggests that Apple may ship the upcoming iPhones with iOS 18 out of the box and will install the new AI features over the air with a software upgrade to iOS 18.1.

iOS 18.1 beta 1 has revealed a couple of new additions such as smart writing tools to improve your text content. There are tools to generate a transcript of an email. You can remove distractions from a web page and Siri has a new UI but its intelligence is still missing in this new software.

Even with that, Apple Intelligence is still in the early phase of development and most people may want to test the new advanced Siri. Unfortunately, that is not available at the time of these beta releases.
