Tesla shares an update on FSD 12.5 for HW3 users

Tesla has shared an update on the current development of Full Self Driving (FSD) version 12.5 for HW3 users.

Late last month, Tesla rolled out FSD 12.5 for customers with new driving experience and intelligence improvements. The company also announced some major upgrades for this build.

That includes the new combined software stack for cities and highways. It will resolve a long-standing complaint from users, which appears while driving between the two traffic scenarios.

With version 12.4, FSD brought a new vision-based driver monitoring system but 12.5 will install some new improvements to the vision system with sunglass support. When you go hands-free while wearing a sunglass the system triggers an attention warning but this may change with upcoming software.

The company has planned a natural lane change decision and debut FSD capability for the Cybertruck electric pickup truck.

It has been two weeks since the initial 12.5 rollout but the availability is limited to only Hardware 4 (HW4) users. The company said that the limitation is only applied to Model Y. Therefore, customers with HW3 cannot download FSD 12.5, not just yet.

However, the company is working on FSD 12.5 for HW3, and should be validated separately. Developers are optimizing the user experience so it can run on HW3 similar to HW4.

Elon Musk, Tesla CEO previously said HW3 support could come in the first half of August. So far, the company has brought four incremental updates – 12.5.1, 12.5.1.1, 12.5.1.2, and 12.5.1.3. Unfortunately, none of these has HW3 support.

In a post today, the Tesla chief revealed that the firm is still working on HW3 support and will be released with a different number. It appears that we’ll have to wait for a week or so to see this version staged for rollout.
