Tesla has announced a major change in its Giga Train and turned it into a battery electric train to fulfill its commitment to renewable energy.

The company has only made this announcement on the social media site X and has not revealed much information about how the change has been made.

In September 2023, the EV maker introduced its train shuttle for Giga Berlin. It runs between its manufacturing facility and the Erkner railway station. The train is open for the staff and the public and carries up to 400 people per ride for free.

In terms of model, the train is a Bombardier Talent, which runs on diesel. It also became the reason for Tesla to receive many comments on this matter as a company that makes electric vehicles (EVs).

Actually, the train is operated by NEB (Die Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn), a private railway company operating a regional train service in Berlin. Meanwhile, we don’t have any information about the current ownership status. The EV maker owns the railway tracks and acquired them from German Regional Railway Group DRE in early 2022.

It was previously reported that the train would make trips about 60 times per day from Monday to Friday every 40 minutes. This will help transport 1,500 people from the manufacturing place to the platform.

It appears the Giga train is finally making sense to the Tesla which led to this electric upgrade.
