Tesla testing 320+kW charging speed for V4 Supercharger

Tesla is testing 320+kW charging speed on some V4-level Supercharger stations, suggesting that these improvements could come online once the test phase is completed.

The revelation comes after X user @TesLatino found this a V4 Supercharger at Los Gatos, California with a charging speed of 323kW. It makes the charger the first ever to output such power to the connected car. By the way, the charging output has been tested on a Cybertruck.

User @itskyleconner shared more details saying that the charger has been doing 900A to get to 320+kW. The nameplate plaque on the charger shows a 3.5 cabinet. He also confirmed that the charger wasn’t V4 actually, it was just the dispenser.

Reacting to this post, Wes Morrill, Cybertruck Lead Engineer said Tesla is running a trial on a few different V3+ stations. That includes a combination of V3 cabinet + V3 charge post.

While clearing doubts over the charging cabinet, Morrill said that the charging capacity is not a bug but cannot be tested on all chargers due to hardware incompatibility. The EV maker introduced V3 stations in 2019, which can ramp up 250 kW.

V4 chargers on the other hand began to rollout in early 2023 but their availability is limited. Its voltage increased to 1000V and supports up to 615 A with a charging cable and 1000 A with a charging pole. However, its software has limited the output to 250kW.
