Tesla is rolling out a Full Self Driving (FSD) Supervised version 12.5.1.1 for public users with software update 2024.21.5. This new build is coming a week after the FSD 12.5′ wide rollout.

The changelog doesn’t have much to explain in terms of features but there are a few things that we can know from the users.

X user SERobinsonjr said the driving experience smoothened but required driver’s intervention a few times during a 3-hour test drive with this new release. The user reported an issue in reading the speed limit sign, which caused the system to perform acceleration or deceleration.

Here’s what two Reddit users described about this software:

“I did install it at one of my stops, rebooted the computer then proceeded to drive on a bunch of surface roads with posted speed limits of 75mph (TX rt 7 and others). Since these were using the surface stack it used auto speed offset. Sad to report no change at all. Furthermore, the surface stack does not seem to read street signs so the posted speed was constantly off in the car. On the rare times when it picked up that the speed limit was 75mph 70, or 65 it was always 10-20 mph too slow and I had to coax it with the go pedal. When it dropped to 40 mph in towns, it did not drop so I had to disengage. Very taxing. They need to fix this asap. It is making an otherwise solid FSD experience tough” wrote @majorgearhead.

“Just had another 45-minute drive with 0 disengagements except in the parking lot of my destination (it was crowded and it couldn’t find a parking spot). Activated FSD as soon as I backed out of my driveway and left it on the whole time. On 12.5.X, now the primary times I’m hovering my foot over the brake to anticipate a disengagement are when I’m at a “no right on red” or it should be yielding, and oncoming traffic is speeding. It can’t always figure out the best move to make in that situation. Everything else is pretty good though, a massive improvement over 12.3 which I already thought was a massive improvement, V11 city streets were unusable here in NC” wrote @UncleGrimm.

“Just drove three miles. Not a lot of distance but has unmarked roads, blind corners and hills, flashing red, roundabout, stop signs, and lots of speed changes. The only problem was it refused to proceed through the flashing red.” said @supernova_000.

Despite improving driving experience, FSD 12.5.1.1 has speed and some traffic sign comprehension issues. These could be related to certain scenarios but need to be addressed in the next rollout.

Speaking of which, the company has rolled out FSD 12.5.1.1 for Tesla cars with hardware 4. However, the EV maker still has a few more days until Hardware 3 users access FSD 12.5.2 or some other version. Still, we need to wait for the next software update.
