Tesla has launched a dashboard ambient lighting for the Model Y electric vehicle (EV), unfortunately, the company has listed this new accessory for Chinese customers.

Ambient lighting is part of the upgraded Tesla Model 3 and stages through the dashboard to passenger doors. However, this functionality is still missing from Model Y because the company has not refreshed the model this year.

There are some reports that the company could bring a new Model Y somewhere in 2025. Meanwhile, Tesla has endorsed no sign for this refresh up until now.

Ambient light is a soft, customizable lighting that improves the car’s interior and creates a visually immersive experience for the driver and passengers. You can customize the colors of ambient lighting and the intensity to match your preference.

This new retrofit for the Model Y is priced at 1,299 yuan (about $178). It is made of textile materials and new multi-color ambient light replacing the original Model Y wood grain dashboard trim.

Once installed, you can customize the light from the touch screen including 256 colors. The purchase price of this new accessory includes service charges such as installation.

Customers will need to contact the Tesla service center for installation and firmware updates, which are required. Customers are advised not to book service appointments at the time of ordering the retrofit.

This is an interesting accessory and its demand among Model Y owners increased after the new Model 3’s launch. Hence, it’s being sourced from third-party providers but an official retrofit would be a whole lot better than a third party. Therefore, we’ll have to wait until it arrives in the U.S.
