Tesla is rolling out Full Self-Driving (FSD) 12.5 including improvements via a new over-the-air (OTA) software update. FSD version 12 continues to improve the self-driving experience, pause, acceleration as well as on-road intelligence.

However, the initial version is missing some prime features that the users are waiting for and the changelog has addressed all of the capabilities coming with future releases. That includes:

  1. Earlier and more natural lane change decision.
  2. Vision-only driver monitoring with sunglasses
  3. End-to-End on highway
  4. FSD on Cybertruck

Among these, the first three will contribute directly to navigation and maneuvering on the city and highway. On the other hand, 12.5 will debut FSD on Cybertruck electric pickup truck.

These new capabilities may be released altogether or gradually but the versions aren’t confirmed. On the other hand, it was speculated that the latest version is only available for Hardware 4 cars.

But it’s confirmed that only Model Y with Hardware 4 falls under this category and for the initial version. Once verified, the company will expand the release for all Model Ys including previous hardware.

This version has 5X increase parameters which means that the HW4 cars can enable the software to handle a large number of variables compared to HW3. Interstingly, the HW3 can also create good results once the parameters are improved and verified in HW4.

However, the company will need to performance optimizations in FSD code, which may take some time.
