However, the ride to autonomous vehicles is under maximum scrutiny in the US after GM’s cruise collided with a pedestrian last year. Afterward, GM had to cancel some project development as well as expansion plans. Its management also railed back due to the criticism from the regulators and government.

Robotaxis are self-driving cars that take passengers and deliver them to a destination. The driver’s part is managed by the software. The taxi equips sensors, cameras, and LiDAR to sense and map the street and surroundings.

This hardware sends signals to the software and in-car computer to make decisions in real time and maneuver the car to the passenger’s destination. The self-driving algorithms are designed to dodge on-road objects and safely bypass pedestrians.

It can also react to traffic lights and stop signs and maintain a safe distance from other cars. A self-driving taxi can make turns based on the navigation inputs. For now, Tesla has not revealed the design for its Robotaxi but it will rely on FSD to power this car and more information could only be known on October 10.
