Luxury EV maker Lucid has begun pre-production preparations for the upcoming Gravity SUV with a bodyshell rollout.

The company has posted this update on social media sites and shown Gravity’s body coming out of Lucid’s paint shop in Infinite Black color. The bodyshell came down from the roof conveyor onto the main production line at the Casa Grande, Arizona facility. This is a major milestone in Gravity’s making and toward a full-scale production.

This step also marks the beginning of the pre-production run on Lucid’s assembly line. These test units will help the company to validate the quality and capacity for large-scale manufacturing.

Gravity aims for up to 400 miles of range and 800 hp power. It has a large 8 cubic feet frunk to store cargo. The SUV will house up to 7 passengers and three rows will equip 3 120V and 6 USB-C outlets.

This large EV will bring 300kW charging support for fast recharge and a 34-inch curved floating screen in the interior with 6K resolution. It will use a new SUV platform and next-gen electric powertrain. The design focuses on efficiency and drag of less than 0.24 with an aerodynamics outlook.

Earlier this year, Lucid announced the expansion of its Advanced Manufacturing Plant (AMP-1) for Gravity and future vehicles. The expansion includes 3 million square feet of facility and warehouse.

During the 1st quarter earning report, Lucid reaffirmed that the Gravity SUV program will start production in late 2024. This electric SUV could start somewhere around $80,000 but its final price and variants will be announced later.
