Rivian has exceeded 100,000 reservations for its new R2 mid-size electric SUV, which is a big milestone as it first delivered targeting 2026.

The company unveiled this crossover in March this year and advances the design of R1S. It is built on the new connected vehicle platform with over-the-air updates support for feature upgrades.

The interior has been improved with new materials and brings a new center console. You can fold seats all the way to the front. Other than passengers, the car offers powered tailgate window, which you can drop down.

R2 has a brand-new steering wheel with haptic control dials. You can scroll them with feedback on each scroll-through menu without touching the display.

This new vehicle will bring two battery sizes, the large one delivers more than 300 miles of range in a single charge. The company has utilized 4695 cells for energy density and output.

It has three motor variants including a single motor with rear-wheel drive, dual motor all-wheel, and tri-motor (two in the rear and one in front). On the other hand, you can accelerate 0-60 mph in 3 seconds with the new power train.

In addition to the Rivian adventure network, the car has a native NACS port, which will help owners charge directly via the Tesla Supercharger.

The Normal Illinois-based EV maker brought R2 at a starting price of $45,000. That’s almost half of the price compared to the R1 series. With slowing EV demand, customers want some new price-effect models and Rivian is planning to deliver the R2 and later R3 series in the familiar range.

Soon after unveiling, the company started accepting reservations at $100 due. At that time, the company crossed 68,000 reservations within a few days. Recently, Rivian VP of Manufacturing Tim Fallon revealed that the company has crossed more than 100,000 reservations for R2. These numbers continue to increase according to Fallon.
