At WWDC24, Apple announced new AI features under “Apple Intelligence” but it may not be able to become a driving force for this year’s iPhone 16, specifically for the sales segment.

Apple’s AI suite consists of different generative AI capabilities including tools to write text content or summary of an article. The new writing functions can proofread your text, rewrite a new version, change the tone, or stylize the content.

Priority notification appears at the top of the stack, it enables you to view important notifications at a glance. Also, new improvements will organize the notifications for a better user experience.

The mail app received this AI overhaul to show you mail in different tabs and sorted automatically. Algorithms will prioritize time-sensitive emails such as invites, deadlines, or reminders. Generative AI will let you transform a sketch into an image at an instance with an image wand tool. The new Genmoji turns an image into an animated image based on your prompt.

Siri is getting a major upgrade with natural language processing models. The voice assistant has become more intelligent than ever before. The company has added a new design with better comprehension and awareness of your current activity.

It has increased access to app features and you can control them with voice commands, which wasn’t the case before. You can also type your query when you don’t want to engage with voice commands.

The new Apple Intelligence will debut with the iPhone 16 series later this year. However, that would only be under early beta. That means the company will take a year or two to mainstream the new AI capabilities in new devices.

These features will rollout for previous models but only to iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. Even 15 and Plus models are not eligible to become intelligent.

Due to these specific reasons, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple Intelligence will not be a key reason to boost the iPhone 16 sales. Kuo suggests that iPhone 16 orders are likely to fall below 90 million units, which could be shorter than iPhone 15.
