Tesla Korea has officially announced the free EWI (extended warranty) on the Model Y after topping the list of most imported cars in the first half of 2024.

Data from the Korean market tracker revealed that the Model Y sold 10,041 units from January to June. That’s above the BMW 5 series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. This is the first time the EV maker surpassed its competitors in the market.

The Model Y has achieved quadruple sales compared to the first half of last year. On the other hand, Model 3 sold 7,026 units during the same period. Earlier this year, Tesla reduced Model Y’s price by up to 4 million won, which led to more sales for this popular passenger electric car.

The new extended warranty applies to customers who purchase the Model Y rear-wheel drive (RWD) and take delivery between July 4, 2024, and September 30, 2024.

This free EWI costs 3.8 million won ($2,754) and will extend the warranty period for an additional 4 years or 80,000 km (whichever comes first). The new extension will apply automatically after the existing vehicle warranty will expire.

Usually, Tesla cars come with a similar duration and range of warranty. This addition will take the warranty to 8 years or 160,000 km of travel. Here are a few things about this limited-time offer:

  1. The free EWI program is non-refundable or redeemable
  2. Customers must take delivery before September 30, 2024.
  3. EWI will be added to the customer account after the delivery.
