2025 Rivian R1T and R1S getting tons of new improvements with 2024.23 update
Electric vehicle (EV) maker Rivian has released a 2024.23 software update for the 2025 R1T and R1S models. The update has a couple of new features and major improvements and fixes.
The carmaker has recently renamed its premium driver assistance features as “Rivian Autonomy Platform”. These are now added to the second-gen R1S and R1T to provide smart driving features including lane change on command.
This capability automatically changes lanes in the direction of the signal with highway assist. You should know that Autonomy Platform+ is available on a trial throughout this year including the lane change feature. This capability will get new features with future updates.
Still, this is not fully autonomous driving. Therefore, you will need to remain attentive to the on-road traffic and surroundings to take over the wheel when required.
Press to Unlock
Rivian has added a new way to unlock the 2025 R1S and R1T. Press the sensor on the driver-side door handle to unlock the EV. However, the feature requires you to meet the following conditions:
- The proximity lock is turned off
- You have the access to phone key
- You need to remain close to the vehicle
You can customize this feature to control the driver-side door only or all door-unlocking behavior via Settings > Vehicles and Access.
Roadside Lighting
R1T and R1S will animate roadside lighting when you top and park your vehicle on the side of the road. This will help to direct traffic around the parked vehicle.
You need to put your EV in “Park” and open the quick controls panel. From here, go to Vehicle > Shortcuts > Roadside lighting from the status bar of the center display.
Improvements
Aside from these 2024.23 OTA update brings many new improvements and fixes for Rivian R1S and R1T 2025 models.
Both the second-gen R1T and R1S come with a secondary light bar in the front and are used for intuitive functionalities. It enables exterior lighting charging animation.
The bar changes color to green once the charging session reaches to limit. Throughout the charging session, it will show progress through white color. The welcome animation for the exterior lighting has also been improved. Entry Lights are optimized for a gradually bright and dim appearance.
The 2024.23 update has fixed the issue of saving accent light settings. The liftgate and hood can reverse when an object is detected while closing. Issues in window closure and side mirror movement are fixed as well.
After the Gear Guard alarm, the center console will trigger a lock. Here are the other new fixes:
- Added a notification to inform you if the Camp Speaker or drawer is docked but unlocked while the vehicle isn’t in Park.
- If the center display indicates Pet Comfort is turned on, the open door buttons are disabled.
- Limited the maximum fan speed to reduce during certain cooling modes.
- Fixed an occasional issue that opened Apple Wallet when an iPhone was placed on the wireless charger.
- Fixed an occasional issue that kept the Gear Guard video recordings from including the location.
- Fixed a rare camera system stability issue that kept certain views from appearing.
- Fixed an issue that kept the trailer brake activation prompt from properly appearing on the driver display.
- Fixed an issue that kept the Rear Cross-Traffic Warning from appearing on the driver display.
- Fixed a rare issue that prevented the Highway Assist Available icon from appearing on the driver display when Highway Assist was available.
- Fixed an issue that kept the vehicle from navigating to faraway destinations when offline.
- Fixed an issue that prevented you from saving small seat position changes.
- Improved the charging session reliability for the Rivian Adventure Network.
