Apple today launched the iOS 18 public beta for iPhones across the globe. This activity allows users to test the latest features before the software officially goes online this fall.

This new iOS made a debut at WWDC24. At the same time, developers got access to the first beta build. However, the company announced a public beta campaign for this month and a final release alongside the iPhone 16 series.

Still, beta builds are ‘in-development’ software and may bring unfamiliar changes to your current devices. So, it’s advised to know more about the adverse effects that the software can have on your iPhone. You can also wait for a full release with better compatibility.

iOS 18 Features

The new version brings new visual and functional upgrades. This includes the new home screen personalization feature with the freedom to organize app icons.

You can now place icons on any space on the home screen without any layout constraints. You can also change the color of the icons to match the home screen wallpaper or apply a dark theme mode.

The Control Center is getting a big redesign with separate control screens and organized control switches. These switches are optimized to support ease of access but are not limited to design only.

You can add new controls from the controls gallery and place them in these places pre-defined by the system. To improve efficiency, you can resize the controls or delete them.

iOS 18 enables you to lock an app with Face ID, which is a highly anticipated capability. In that case, the user will need to verify Face ID to open or show the content of other apps.

The photos app is getting better sorting features to help you browse the gallery. RCS support is also added to iMessage for rich media and delivery for those who don’t use iMessage.

Mail, Safari, Notes, and other system apps will get smarter with a new sorting feature to help you access the item you want.
