Tesla Model Y owners can now buy upto 50 miles driving range for RWD version
Tesla has announced an Energy Boost offer for Model Y RWD to increase up to 50 miles of driving range with an over-the-air (OTA) software upgrade. However, customers will have to pay extra to fetch this extended range.
This offer is open for Model Y Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) with 260 miles driving range. In May, Tesla introduced a Long Range Model Y in the US with 320 miles of driving range. This range is even more than the Long Range AWD with 310 miles.
Afterward, Tesla delisted the Model Y RWD from the official website while keeping the new Long Range RWD as standard. After this launch, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that Model Y RWD owners could upgrade their car’s range at an additional price.
He explained that the recently manufactured Model Y was equipped with new battery cells that could unlock more range with a software update.
Energy Boost Offer
You can check the range options by going into the Tesla mobile app. From here enter Upgrades > Software Updates > Buy > Energy Boost.
Here you will see two options, one to add 30 miles and the second to add 50 miles. Here are the prices:
- 30 miles range extension costs $1,000
- 50 miles range extension costs $1,600
Once finalized, you can complete the order by making the payment and downloading the software update. The purchase terms are unconfirmed, whether both offers can be grabbed one after another. However, these range add-ons may be limited based on the model production and the battery.
With the first addition, the RWD model will gain up to 290 miles and the second will give you 310 miles of range. This puts the car in parity with the new Long Range RWD. Meanwhile, the Energy Boost offer is only available for Tesla Model Y in the US but might expand to other markets.
