Tesla CEO, Elon Musk said that the hype for an Upgraded Model Y could potentially harm the sales of the existing version after an alleged image of the 2025 model surfaced online.

The picture posted on Reddit shows a car with front and rear covers to hide the design. It’s expected that this is the new Model Y but there’s no confirmation on this matter. This image was quickly shared on the social media site X (formerly Twitter) and received a major pop from users as well as attention from the Tesla chief.

“Please stop hinting that there is (a new Model Y), as it damages our sales of the current version,” Musk wrote on X.

Earlier this year, Telsa released the 2024 Model 3 in North America with new upgrades. That includes slimmer headlights, new taillights, and better aerodynamics.

These new enhancements are well received by customers but inspire some to wait for an upgraded Model Y. The new Model 3 is not the only one to create this hype because there are inputs about the development of an improved Model Y. It’s reported that Model Y is under development under project “Juniper” and it’s slated for production in mid-2024.

However, the Tesla CEO quickly shot down these reports by saying that no Model Y refresh is coming in 2024. Earlier this year, the EV company told staff to keep maximum transparency over the Model Y refresh. An internal email informed all employees to ensure the info reaches to customers upon queries.

The company is taking this step to ensure that customers do not hold back on buying an existing model. Eventually, it might also change their mind and cause them to select another EV instead of a Tesla. The Model Y and Model 3 are the top two EV models and drive most of the company’s revenue. Especially Model Y, which stands as the most popular EV so far.

In the second quarter of 2024, Tesla delivered 422,405 units of Model 3 and Model Y and produced 386,576 units.
