Tesla opens FSD transfer program for a ‘quarter’ in the US
Tesla has opened the Full Self-Driving (FSD) transfer program for all car owners in the US for an entire quarter. Earlier today, the electric vehicle (EV) maker posted this announcement with an end date of August 31, 2024.
With its previous date, the company enabled transfers for more than two months. However, the company updated this offer and added a new last date to September 30. The new timeline makes the offer available for an entire quarter rather than two months.
The new change in transfers comes after second-quarter delivery and production results. Tesla sold 443,956 vehicles over the last three months and produced 410,831 EVs in the same duration. The deliveries are up from 386,810 EVs sold in the first quarter of 2024. However, it declined compared to Q2 2023.
In February, FSD transfers opened for Model 3, S, X, and Y for two months in North America. During the Q1 earning call, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk denied the possibility of making FSD transfers available for always.
At 2024 Stockholders Day, investors asked Musk to reopen the free transfers but he explained some complications around this program in the financial section. However, he eventually agreed to return to the program for an entire quarter.
Right after this announcement, Tesla Korea enabled FSD transfers for customers but only for a month. Later on, Tesla Japan enabled FSD transfers for users by the end of September. FSD transfer allows you to take delivery of a new Tesla between until September 30, 2024, and transfer FSD capability from your current to a new vehicle.
The free transfers are available for Tesla vehicles delivered between June 24, 2024, to September 30, 2024. You must be a legal owner of the current model with FSD registered in the same account.
Once transferred, your existing model will only have access to basic Autopilot features. However, you cannot revert the transfer once the transfer is completed. This offer doesn’t apply to used, commercial, and lease vehicles.
