This year’s iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will use M14 OLED screens to upgrade from the existing lineup for better viewing quality and angles.

ETnews reports that South Korea’s Samsung will supply organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels for new iPhones featuring “M14” material. This new panel is designed for models released in the second half of the year.

An OLED display uses organic materials that light up when an electric current is applied. On the other hand, LCD screens require a backlight. The screen has high contrast, true blacks, improved viewing angles, and a longer lifespan.

Samsung uses new materials to create OLED panels for premium devices. These materials are labeled as “M Series” and a high number reflects maximum quality. M14 is a new OLED material and it will be used for the first time with this production. Panels with this material will offer increased brightness and lifespan.

iPhone 16 series will launch in the second half of this year and reportedly bring a new change in the screen sizes. The standard and Plus models will retain 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens respectively. However, the company would upgrade the Pro and Pro Max screens with new resolutions of 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays.

Similar to previous years, Samsung will supply displays to all iPhones. Among these, M14 will be applied to Pro and Pro Max models, and M12 to standard and Plus variants.

OLEDs are vastly produced with light-emitting layers and auxiliary materials including Host and dopant. These emit light in the light-emitting layer. Prime enables increasing the light-emitting efficiency of the dopant and host.

The new advancements with M14 material for iPhone 16 will provide brighter displays. The size change is also a major milestone and will bring a new user experience.
