FSD 12.4.2

FSD 12.4.2 has entered an internal rollout, which means the latest self-driving software update is now online for Tesla employees. The new FSD is part of the firmware version 2024.15.10 but the access is limited. Also, it’s not released for external users either.

Last week, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk announced FSD will move to an internal release with improved ride comfort. However, there was no report on this firmware throughout the past seven days. Reacting to the 12.4.2 internal rollout, the Tesla chief acknowledged the delay and shared a few reasons.

“Sorry for the delay. This release had far fewer interventions but suffered in driving smoothness” Musk wrote on social media site X on Sunday.

He explained that the issue originated due to excessive data training for interventions and not much on usual driving.

Full self-driving (FSD) is a self-driving technology but it’s not fully autonomous. Therefore, it needs to be supervised by a human driver. Also, FSD is still under development and cannot figure out some traffic or road scenarios. Therefore, Its driving intelligence can also be affected by the environment.

In these cases, Tesla prioritizes safety and enables drivers to take over at any time while FSD is engaged. FSD 12.4 is heavily invested in fewer interventions and the company is developing this new version to provide expanded hands-free driving.

It requires new computing training for complicated traffic road conditions. Adapting to more complex situations will help to reduce wheel takeover requirements. Somehow, the intervention training is not aligned with the usual FSD experience.

Musk briefed that Tesla is working on the issues and aiming to resolve them as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Tesla has not shared a date for the FSD 12.4.2 public rollout.
