Hyundai Inster sub-compact EV unveiled with 355 km range

Hyundai has unveiled the Inster sub-compact urban electric vehicle (EV) with an interesting design and affordable price expected below $30,000.

The vehicle is based on the 2021 petrol version of the CASPER compact car. The new vehicle takes CASPER’s aesthetics and brings them into an electric version. This new EV sits between traditional A-segment sub-compact city cars and larger B-segment compact models. The size and architecture enable flexible maneuvering and occupy low parking space.

The exterior has fenders, a circuit board-like bumper, and a skid plate to enhance the front and rear sides. The front features LED daytime running light signature and pixel-graphic turn signals, a tail lamp, and bumpers.

Customers will have the option to choose between LED projection headlamps and a two-tone exterior with a black roof. The car offers a 15-inch steel with wheel covers and 15-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels.

Interior

This new EV equips a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation, and a wireless charging dock. The interior is furnished with a pixel theme and customization upper door trim to personalize this EV.

All seats in this car can be folded flat and there is an option to get heated front seats and steering wheel. Hyundai unveiled the Inster EV in different exterior colors including Atlas White, Tomboy Khaki, Bijarim Kahki Matte, and Unbleached Ivory.

These are aligned with several hues Sienna Orange Metallic, Aero Silver Matte, Dusk Blue Matte, Buttercream Yellow Pearl, Abyss Black Pearl, and some two-tone combinations with a black roof. Meanwhile, the interior colors are Black, Khaki Brown, and Newtro Beige two-tone with full cloth trim.

Battery and Charging

The standard Inster packs a 42 kWh battery and the long-range version with 49kWh. These two models generate 71.1 kW (97 PS) with a single motor in the base and 84.5 kW (115 PS) in the long-range version.

The long-range version delivers 355 km WLTP driving range. It can recharge with a 120 kW DC charger with 10 to 80 percent under 30 minutes. With vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology, customers can charge external devices (110V/220V) for bi-directional charging without an external accessory.

Safety and Features

Hyundai has installed a range of safety and driving features such as an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), ambient lighting, a one-touch sunroof, and an NFC digital key.

Markets

Hyundai Inster will make a debut in Korea this summer. It will then expand to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific.
