Full Self-Driving (FSD) 12.4.2 software update could be released tomorrow for Tesla employees while the public users are still using 12.3 series builds.

While answering an X user, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk said FSD 12.4.2 has been improved compared to the previous version. It has added new safety features and increased ride comfort for users.

The Tesla chief also mentioned that this build will move to internal testing by tomorrow (June 26). Last month, the company released the first 12.4 for employees but the build never made it for external users.

FSD 12.4.1 also rolled out earlier this month but remained limited to some employees. Therefore, the situation around 12.4.2 remained uncertain at the moment.

Previous input suggests that 12.4.2 will be released widely compared to previous versions. That means FSD users will have a high chance to get this software onboard. FSD is a self-driving system designed for Tesla cars, it can navigate on roads and make turns with real-time hazard and pedestrian detection. However, the version 12 appears to be far better than FSD 11.

Users reported that v12 is smoother and brings a better driving experience. However, the electric vehicle (EV) company has announced the FSD 12 as Supervised. That concludes that the car needs a driver behind the wheel when the self-driving system disengages.

During the drive, the car continues to check driver behavior and attention via wheel torque. The new FSD 12.4 software brings a new Vision-based driver monitoring system, which removes unnecessary attention warnings.

The cabin’s camera detects gestures and the driver’s head movement to determine the current state. The new solution will be used as a primary tool to check the driver’s head position. However, the car would still rely on the wheel torque as a secondary solution. For now, no date speculated for the public release of FSD 12.4.2.
