Apple is preparing to launch Artificial Intelligence (AI) features for all iPhone 16 models to improve productivity and offer a new user experience.

Earlier this month, Apple revealed the iOS 18 operating system with new “Apple Intelligence”, a suite of generative AI features. However, Apple’s AI capability will be limited to only two models – iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.

The reason for this limited availability is related to the mobile chipset and memory. Since 2022, the iPhone lineup has brought a dual chipset strategy. That includes the next-gen chip on Pro models and the existing-gen processor on the base lineup.

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max equips A17 Pro, while the iPhone 15 and Plus models bring A16 chipset. Apple maintained this difference with 6GB RAM on standard and Plus models and 8GB on Pro models.

The company mentioned that the new AI features can also run on old devices but would perform so slowly. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus were released last year and hard to call these devices old as they’re are still on shelves.

The company is likely to change this strategy by bringing 8GB as standard in all models. Supply chain analyst Jeff Pu said Apple will upgrade the entire lineup to 8GB RAM to support the latest software features onboard to support the newest software features.

This year’s iPhone 16 will be free of processor and memory constraints to provide AI capabilities across the board. Apple will release the iPhone 16 series this fall along with iOS 18 operating system.
