Apple and social media giant Meta are in talks to fix a partnership about generative AI large language models (LLM) for iOS 18 and iPhones reports the Wall Street Journal.

This year, Apple introduced “Apple Intelligence” a suite of generative AI services for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and the latest macOS. These features are now deeply integrated into the core of the software and improve user experience with much-tailored features.

For example, the Siri voice assistant has gained app access and can enable or disable any feature from voice command. iOS 18 users can also generate images, emojis, and wallpaper from the device.

With this unveiling, Apple announced a partnership with OpenAI to integrate GPT-4o-powered ChatGPT. It will allow Siri to redirect prompts to ChatGPT after receiving user permission. ChatGPT provides writing tools to write and improve the content with on-screen options.

However, OpenAI is not the exclusive cloud AI partner for Apple. The company is reportedly in touch with Google for Gemini model integration. On the other hand, Anthropic and Perplexity are also in scope to form a partnership.

The Cupertino-based tech firm is exploring partners in China as well including Baidu and Tencent. The latest entry in these reported conversations now adds Meta.

Back in April, Llama 3 made a debut, a new generation of open-source LLMs. These are pre-trained and instruction-fine-tuned language models with 8 billion and 70 billion parameters.

The Facebook and Instagram parent company also released a new Meta AI assistant for all Meta platforms. It is capable of creating images, previewing image generation, and more.

Despite these reports, none of these companies are officially announced to feature in the next-gen iPhone devices. But, each AI titan would want to get a slot in Apple’s AI journey as it has massive potential to expand its user base.
