Apple may not be able to launch Apple Intelligence AI features in Europe due to the bloc’s regulatory rules that bar the entrance of new features for consumers.

The Cupertino-based tech firm told the Financial Times that it would delay new AI features for European markets. It will find a way to make them compatible with the region’s digital regulations. The company believes it won’t be able to release three key features including iPhone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen Sharing enhancements, and Apple Intelligence.

Apple Intelligence is a suite of new generative AI capabilities designed for the iOS 18 operating system announced at WWDC 24. It uses a large language model (LLM) for on-device and Apple’s server-side AI to provide optimum AI performance.

AI has improved the Siri voice assistance with features such as expanded control over the system apps. For example, Siri now observes the iPhone’s screen and checks your app interactions. It executes the voice command on that app in natural language.

You can also create generative emojis into the device without any third-party AI tool. You can share these generated emojis and stickers to your friends and family for extra interactivenss. Apple is also bringing writing tools to create better content for productivity apps to change the tone of the content or rewrite it.

iPhone Mirroring on macOS Sequoia can mirror the iPhone screen on a Mac and enable customers to browse the iPhone directly from the Mac. Users can drag and drop between iPhone and Mac, while the iPhone remains locked. During mirroring, the iPhone notifications will appear on the Mac’s screen.

It seems Apple doesn’t want to indulge in a new drama with the European Union (EU) as the bloc has already been investigating the iPhone maker’s app distribution practices under the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

However, it won’t make a big difference since Apple Intelligence will remain as a preview, iPhone users in Europe might not miss a whole lot this year.
