Performance

Claude 3.5 Sonnet brings graduate-level reasoning (GPQA), undergraduate-level knowledge (MMLU), and coding efficiency (HumanEval). The new model is twice as fast as Claude 3 Opus. The performance is bound by efficient prices making Claude 3.5 Sonnet designed for complex tasks including context-sensitive customer support.

Claude 3.5 Sonnet has solved 64 percent of problems, which is 38 percent better than Claude 3 Opus. Evaluation test shows the model is capable of fixing a bug or adding a feature to an open-source codebase. Calude 3.5 Sonnet can write, edit, and execute code with reasoning and troubleshooting capabilities. It can handle translations to update legacy applications and migrate codebases.

The new Claude 3.5 Sonnet has a powerful vision model that surpasses Claude 3 Opus on standard vision benchmarks. The improvements are noticeable for tasks that require visual reasoning such as interpreting charts and graphs. It can also transcribe text from incomplete images, a feature required for retail, logistics, and financial services.

Anthropic promised that the new models went through massive testing and have been trained to reduce misuse. The Anthropic Claude 3.5 Sonnet remains at ASL-2. The AI firm has announced that the Claude 3.5 model family including Claude 3.5 Haiku and Claude 3.5 Opus will release later this year.
