Tesla has announced a Full Self-Driving (FSD) transfer program for customers in Japan who want to upgrade their model to a new one and transfer existing FSD capability to a vehicle.

The program will enable customers to transfer their FSD option to a new car if they purchase and take delivery of a new model by Friday, September 30, 2024.

Customers cannot transfer enhanced autopilot and register newly purchased and existing vehicles on the same account. This promotion applies to all models including Tesla Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y cars across Japan. You can register yourself on the official Japan website.

Earlier this year, Tesla enabled FSD transfers in the US until March 31, 2024. Last week, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said to return FSD transfers for an entire quarter. While promising this new timeline, the CEO said there are complications around offering FSD transfers but he eventually agreed to do so at customers’ requests.

This program applies to legal and registered Tesla owners with existing FSD purchases at the time of delivery of their new vehicle. Once processed, the transfer cannot be stopped or paused. This program doesn’t apply to commercial, operational leases, third-party leases, and used vehicles.

After applying to the program, FSD will be removed from your existing vehicle within 48 hours. It will be transferred to the new model within a week of the delivery.

The customer cannot reverse this transfer process and use it once on a single account. Furthermore, customers cannot redeem the FSD capability for cash or transfer it to another person.

Unfortunately, the company has not enabled new quarterly transfers in North America, where it resides most of the FSD users. However, Tesla might be preparing a campaign for US and Canadian customers.
