Rivian preparing new app feature for iOS 18
Rivian will introduce a host of new features for its mobile app with iOS 18 operating system confirmed Wassym Bensaid, Senior Vice President of Software in a thread discussion on Reddit.
Bensaid didn’t reveal the specific capabilities but mentioned that these will be coming soon for the users. Apple at WWDC24 revealed the iOS 18 operating system for iPhones with advanced customizations and an intelligent voice assistant.
This iOS version brings a brand new control center with the ability to rearrange quick controls and add new ones from the controls gallery. Control Center has been categorized for simplicity and ease of access.
A week ago, Rivian released version 2.10.0 of its iOS app with trip planning and climate control improvements. The interface now includes a new vehicle presentation inside the app. You can check the cabin climate when it’s running with a glance with the new Live Activity. You can also access accurate trip planning by creating a trailer profile. The app will allow you to add or swap out a charging stop on your trip to customize your route.
The software VP also promoted the upcoming spatial audio, a prominent feature of the Apple ecosystem that is now part of Rivian Premium Audio. The electric vehicle (EV) maker has recently partnered with Apple and Dolby Atmos to bring a high-quality sound experience.
Apple has also upgraded its new Siri voice assistant to expand controls over mobile apps. Developers can predefine an app intent for different features that Siri can support and perform for the end user inside an app. Rivian developers can use this capability to control app features through voice commands.
There is no date available for the rollout of this update but iOS 18 will launch this Fall for all iPhone users.
