Volvo EX30 all-electric vehicle (EV) is seeing a major recall to fix a software bug causing glitches in the center infotainment screen leading to feature access problems.

The recall includes around 72,000 EX30 units and will be fixed via over-the-air software update Volvo told Bloomberg. This issue was first reported by Swedish media and highlights Volvo’s software struggles.

Unveiled last year, the Volvo EX30 single motor option with LFP battery for standard range. It also has an extended-range battery version with up to 480km of range.

It equips a twin motor performance with an all-wheel drive with 315kw (428hp) and accelerates 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. The car can charge its battery from 10 to 80 percent in less than 25 minutes.

A small batch of EX30’s deliveries started in January and April this year. Around 35,000 EX30s have been sold but the recall is issued for 71,956 units produced so far.

This full-fledged software fix follows Volvo’s recall with Australia’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport Regional Development, Communications and the Arts issued on May 23, 2024. The recall covers 1,255 units of EX30 models ranging from 2023-2024.

The letter explains that the infotainment unit screen may enter a test mode during the start-up of the vehicle. This may prevent the user from using key functionality such as accessing the vehicle’s speed. It is mentioned that customers can contact their authorized Volvo retailer if the OTA update doesn’t work.
