iOS 18 will rework Control Center and Settings menu

Apple wants to change the control center with iOS 18 software and it will also introduce a new music widget and settings menu for improved graphics experience.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest Power On weekly newsletter wrote that Apple is working on an overhaul for iPhone’s Control Center for iOS 18. It allows users to access common features without opening the settings app. You need to swipe down from the top right-hand corner of the screen to pull down the control center.

The new overhaul planned for the Control Center includes updates for the music widget with “now playing” and extended HomeKit smart home controls.

The control panel highlights feature based on usecase priority. For example, the music and connenection and network widgets sits on the top row. The brightness and volume bars are tall and captures a lot of space.

Other features such as alarm, torch, dark mode, focus, calculator, mirroring and more adjusts in the bottom free space. There are not details available about the desing refresh but it would become more personalized if new customization features added.

Gurman also said that Apple is keen on improving the home kit. This is a one tap access feature to control all of the connected accessories in your home. Afterward you can turn on/off an accessory. Tap the accessory’s name on the right side of the tile to show the accessory’s control.

The iPhone maker could introduce a range of new options to control home appliances compared to existing ones.

Settings

Another iprovements mentioned in the report indicates better settings. Gurman expalined that iOS settings will get revamped with a clean interface, organized menu elements and improved search features.

This description suggests a better UI for iPhone users. The current settings UI is minimalistic but Apple coud stock Andorid on this matter with big tiles on top of the settings options. Apple will unveil iOS 18 with major new changes at annual WWDC24 event on June 10.
