Apple will upgrade Siri voice assistant with new generative AI capability and deep integration into the iOS software ecosystem. The company will provide assistant access to system apps and let you operate with voice commands.

Currently, Siri only operates within a set of limitations but the new upgrade will allow you to do more than play music, open an app, or set alarms.

The new Siri will use two capabilities on-device and cloud proceed computing. However, the assistant will prioritize on-device AI that doesn’t require mandatory internet access. On the other hand, it will also utilize cloud computing for fast data access but there is not much detail available on that part.

Under the new changes, Siri will be able to control system apps for the first time. To prepare for this, Apple is making significant changes in the bottom layer of Siri and marked the inclusion of LLMs.

Generative AI is soaring in the industry due to the ease of the user experience. It simplifies various aspects of interactions within the device. Therefore, Siri will take the center of the stage among the latest AI push by the company at WWDC24.

The new AI Siri will analyze the use cases and suggest to users what to do in a better way than before. According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple planned to keep Siri’s AI capabilities limited but could expand it to different system-level commands later.

Among the newest additions, Siri could be able to summarize recorded meetings and then text the summary to a colleague using a single command. You can also ask the assistant to edit an image or change its ratio then send it to a contact.

Privacy Concerns

Apple also wants to pursue user data privacy with new on-device AI models, which is essential for this task. However, the question would arise around cloud-based AI, which will process user data to a third-party server in case it could be OpenAI or Google.

It’s not confirmed which one has sealed a deal with Apple for cloud computing services but we’ll have to wait only a week to find that out.
