Tesla reportedly accelerating FSD China launch preps

Tesla is making new moves to launch Full Self Driving (FSD) self-driving technology for its electric vehicles (EVs) in China says a new report.

The company is working on “Full Self-Driving” software registration with authorities in China to secure trademarks and operations. It’s considered a move to make this self-driving tech available for customers.

FSD provides advanced driver assistance features designed for guidance and assisted driving under a driver’s supervision. Once enabled, the FSD car can automatically navigate traffic, make turns, and park. It can detect on-road hazards, humans, and traffic signs among other safety features.

Tesla is working on FSD version 12, which has improvements over version 11. It also has matured driving experiences with better computing and processing of real-time data.

FSD can be purchased alongside a new vehicle at a $8,000 (58,000 yuan) payment and $99 (717 yuan) for a monthly subscription. The company could unveil a monthly subscription for Chinese customers for easy access.

CEO’s Visit:

Last month, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk visited China to complete regulatory work and process FSD for approval. Immediately after, the firm announced a strategic partnership with Baidu to use its mapping technology.

Over the past few years, Tesla has been facing competition from Chinese competitors including BYD. The sales of the EV maker are gradually declining but remain top EV sellers in the country.

Amid these developments, the company could open a new front of the competition as FSD remains one of the most promising self-driving technologies.

Other car companies are also pursuing self-driving including China’s XPENG and Baidu but FSD’s entrance will force all of them to ramp up efforts in this field.
