Ford today announced the F-150 Lightning-based SuperTruck with performance upgrades compared to the existing F-150 Lightning model. The company has shared a teaser to promote this new electric truck coming later on.

This new model is enhanced by Ford Performance (previously known as Ford Racing), a high-performance division of Ford Motor Company. The teaser gives us a glimpse of the silhouette and the outline of the Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck but there’s not much we can see with all that secrecy.

However, the design looks improved compared to the F-150 Lightning with increased suspension.

Pikes Peak

Ford confirmed that the new Ford-150 Lightning SuperTruck will participate in the 102nd running of the Pikes Peak Internation Hill Climb by Gran Turismo in late June. Ford F-150 Lightning is the best-selling electric pickup truck and the company is keen on testing its highest performance on the ground. Therefore, it has optimized the EV’s aerodynamics and power output to test it on a 12.5-mile uphill.

“Running electric test vehicles there allows Ford to push the boundaries of EV powertrains in the most extreme conditions and bring those learning bracks to enhance its production vehicles,” wrote Ford in a press release.

The company says the climb will help the development of more robust EV components including motors, inverters, and battery packs. That too covers software calibration and battery cell chemistry for peak performance.

Romain Dumas will drive SuperTruck as competitor no. 150 after qualifying in Colorado Springs, Colorado, June 18-20. The Hill climb will be on the following week on Juen 23. This is Ford’s second EV participation in Pikes Peak. In 2023, the company introduced a 1,400-horsepower Electric SuperVan 4.2 based on Ford Pro’s E-Transit custom van platform.

Furthermore, Ford is also experimenting with performance upgrades for EVs with Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 and Mustang Mach-E 1400. The company is also working on hybrid powertrains to entry in Formula 1 in 2026 with a partnership with Oracle Red Bull Racing.
