Apple to expand OLED display to iPad Mini
Apple is working on an OLED display expansion for the iPad Mini lineup after the company introduced this screen with the iPad Pro this month.
ZDNet Korea reports that Samsung Display has started sampling the 8-inch OLED panel for future iPad Mini lineups. This sample production started last month and mass production is aimed for the second half of 2025.
Samsung is the primary supplier of the iPad Pro supply chain for new OLED panels. The company has also introduced a new tandem design to improve the brightness and power efficiency of the model.
The report suggests that the iPad Mini may not be the only OLED expansion planned and iPad Air will also join the OLED roadmap.
Previous information indicates that the iPad Air will be the first to introduce OLED screens in 2026. It will be followed by the iPad Mini in 2027. However, the new report forces that both of these models will be refreshed together instead of one after another.
The other discussion on this matter led us to the display size of the iPad Air, which may remain at 11 inches for the time being but only until the OLED kicks in. The iPad Mini on the other hand could also see a notable increase to 8.7-inch from 8.3-inch.
