2025 Rivian R1S and R1T Refresh specifications leaked
A certification document has revealed specifications of the upcoming 2025 Rivian R1S and R1T refresh models including their battery and wheel sizes.
These two electric vehicles are tested under the “Peregrine” program. The document focuses on three segments: Vehicle, Battery, and Motors. Models covered in this test phase are standard including:
- Rivian R1T Dual Standard 20-inch
- Rivian R1S Dual Standard 20-inch
- Rivian R1T Dual Standard 22-inch
- Rivian R1S Dual Standard 22-inch
Battery
The standard models equips reduced 92.5kWh LFP battery compared to the 106kWh used in the existing lineup. These batteries are known for their stability and are less prone to thermal runaway. Battery weight is also reduced from 796 kg to 727 kg suggesting slight cut in battery range.
LFP battery has a long lifespan compared to other lithium-ion battery chemistries. These batteries are less expensive than their counterparts, which could lead to a decreased price tag for the standard version.
2025 Rivian R1T and R1S Refresh will come with an SAE J1772 combo CCS Inlet, located at the front left corner of the car and covered by a charge port door. It supports SAE J1772 for AC Level 1 (120 VAC) and AC Level 2 (240 VAC) charging through an adapter.
Heat Pump
This vehicle offer a heat pump, one which was requested by customers and it’s also a part of the upcoming Rivian R2 EV. It also improves NVH due to the relocated compressor. It improves cold ambient performance with an HV coolant heater.
Wheel
The company may have retired the 21-inch wheel and brought new 22-inch aero wheels alongside the 20-inch wheel option for standard R1S and R1T.
The Rivian R1S 20-inch standard version estimated 247/257 miles of range, and the 22-inch version goes 263/270 miles. However, the EPA has not yet rated the vehicle’s driving range.
Design:
Alongside these specifications, the company has also tagged the R1S refresh vehicle design in the document. This is similar to what we’ve seen in the previous on-road appearance of this vehicle.
However, there’s not much difference between the refresh and the existing models up with that design cover.
Launch:
Rivian could release these two models in the middle of this year but an official launch date is awaited. These two vehicles could help the company to keep the sales momentum until Rivian R2 delivery begins in 2026.
