World’s largest cruise company equips Starlink satellite internet

The world’s largest cruise company, Carnival Corporation & plc has announced integration of SpaceX’s Starlink satellite technology across all global ships.

Starlink is available for different scenarios including high-speed internet for fleet in sea and water. Customers can stream movies, make video calls, and play games during movement and while anchored. Starlink satellite for fleets enables weather reports, track conditions, and vessel routing services. SpaceX operates these satellites across the globe for maximum coverage.

The complete Starlink installation will improve the onboard experience for guests and crew to provide fast service, improved capacity, and more reliable Wi-Fi on its 90-plus ships.

This integration is part of Carnival’s new upgrades and investment to improve connectivity across its fleet since 2019.  The added bandwidth will allow guests and crew to boost each ship’s operational and communication capabilities.

It offers more onboard equipment monitoring real-time continuous onboard equipment monitoring and real-time connectivity and data sharing between ship and shore teams. The Starlink integration will lead to enhanced quick rollout of new guest services and features in the sea.

In December 2022, Carnival started the Starlink rollout for its entire fleet including Carnival Cruise Line and AIDA Cruises ships. This expansion reached world-class cruise brands including Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Seabourn, P&O Cruises (Australia), Costa Cruises, P&O Cruises (UK), and Cunard.

Starlink improves Carnival’s multi-provider strategy for reliable, high-speed Wi-Fi service available on land while on board its global fleet of 90+ ships visiting more than 800 ports.

“Starlink has been a game-changer for the onboard connectivity experience our cruise lines deliver to their guests, and we’ve already seen a surge in guest satisfaction and positive feedback from the super-fast and reliable Wi-Fi service we provide onboard,” said Carnival CEO, Josh Weinstein.
