OpenAI C0-Founder Ilya Sutskever announced Tuesday that he’s leaving the company that made ChatGPT. This announcement comes as llya has reportedly been missing from action since last year’s OpenAI leadership turmoil, which led to the firing and re-hiring of CEO Sam Altman.

“I am excited for what comes next — a project that is very personally meaningful to me about which I will share details in due time.” he wrote on social media site X on Tuesday.

“OpenAI would not be what it is without him. Although he has something personally meaningful he is going to go work on” wrote Altman, CEO of OpenAI has also shared a message on llya’s departure.

The OpenAI chief also mentioned that Jakub will replace llya as the new chief scientist at the company. The announcement also follows the company’s newest product release, ChatGPT-4o featuring brand new capabilities compared to existing models.
