Tesla CEO, Elon Musk said that his company is preparing to fix steering wheel nag occurrence in Full Self Driving (FSD) with version 12.4 scheduled to release next week.

While attending FSD testers on complaints about frequent nag prompts, Musk addressed them by saying “Fixed in 12.4”. X user @farzyness asked whether the Tesla Chief was talking about the elimination, and Musk replied “Yes”.

These are short replies and don’t contain much information about the complete elimination of steering wheel nag. However, it confirms that Tesla will make new improvements with the upcoming 12.4 FSD version.

Tesla FSD is an autopilot with advanced driver assistance features. It enables the car to automatically navigate through traffic, change lanes, and react to signals and stop signs while detecting on-street objects. However, FSD is not autonomous driving software and needs the driver’s attention on the road to take over.

Steering wheel nag is a driver’s safety feature that ensures the driver remains engaged and alerts to take control. That’s not it, if the driver continues to ignore these wheel nag warnings, FSD will disengage and even ban the FSD use.

NHTSA Recall:

Back in December, Tesla enforced new driver safety features in line with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) safety recall report. Software version 2023.44.30 brings strict applications to the handling of the autopilot feature.

The update improved driver monitoring warning alerts on the touchscreen. It increased the strictness of driver attentiveness requirements when using autosteer and approaching traffic lights and stop signs. The update introduced a suspension policy to ban Autosteer usage for one week if improper usage is detected.

These are the key changes that NHTSA wants Tesla to make in the driver’s safety section. Meanwhile, drivers are facing problems with safety measures, which could be very irritating and unnecessary in some scenarios even when they’ve completely focused on the driveway.

We’ll have to wait to see how Tesla complies with NHTSA to fix the steering wheel nag issue with FSD version 12.4.
