Apple is exploring a potential partnership with electric vehicle (EV) company Rivian for a new collaboration on a brand or a car, suggests a report from Digitimes (via – 9to5mac).

It’s speculated that both companies are discussing forming this partnership and come to a conclusion for a new product family. However, it’s not confirmed what the product may be.

Apple has long been working to launch its car brand with fully autonomous driving technology. However, years of rumors and speculations ended earlier this year as Apple reportedly disbanded its research team. This new decision was made to stop burning cash on a new product, which has not achieved sufficient results. Specifically, it wasn’t ready for consumers.

This news sent a positive note to investors and the company publically changed its direction towards generative AI and large language models. The researchers on the car project are now pursuing AI technologies for next-gen consumer products.

This new speculation once again brought a new life to this lapsed topic. It could mean that Apple might want to partner with Rivian to create EVs rather than self-development.

Rivian is one the largest EV sellers in the US and is continuously emerging in the market. Its R1S and R1T vehicles are performing well in sales. This EV company has recently unveiled its new affordable R2 midsize SUV and R3X rally-inspired crossover. Both of these lineups will start deliveries in 2026.

Both companies also have a window of collaboration opened on next-gen CarPlay, which is in the works and could lead to a new experience for Rivian owners.

For now, there’s no precise indication of what Apple and Rivian are cooking together in this rumored partnership. However, there could be some clarification heading our way soon.
