Tesla recalls all Cybertruck with accelerator pedal fault

Tesla has announced a recall for all Cybertruck electric pickup trucks to fix the accelerator pedal fault which could lead to an accident.

A recall report published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed recall submission from April 17, 2024, by Tesla.

The letter describes when high force is applied to the pad on the accelerator pedal, the pad may dislodge and could cause the pedal to become trapped in the interior trim above the pedal.

The performance and operation of the pedal will be affected after the pedal is trapped. It will cut drive torque including when both brake and accelerator pedals are pressed and continued application of the brake pedal will bring the vehicle to a stop as quickly as if the accelerator pedal was not pressed. This increases the risk of a collision.

This fault is caused by an unapproved change introduced lubricant to aid in the component assembly of the pad onto the accelerator pedal. Residual lubricant reduced the retention of the pad to the pedal.

How to Identify?

An attempt to press the accelerator pedal will cause performance compromise and incomplete press. On the other hand, the brake pedal press fault will sound an audible and visual alert that both brake and accelerator pedals are being pressed.

How many Vehicles are affected?

The letter mentioned that Tesla Cybertruck’s manufacturer from November 13, 2023, to April 04, 2024, is part of this recall. In numbers, the company estimated a 100% recall of the delivered vehicles about 3,838 units.

Fix:

Tesla has announced that the company will fix this fault at no charge and will replace or rework the accelerator pedal assembly for proper functionality and prevent the ped from dislodging.

Meanwhile, new units produced by April 17, 2024, will come with a new accelerator pedal component. Also, vehicles at delivery centers and in transit to delivery centers will receive the fix before delivery.
