Amazon has confirmed that it’s now operating more than 13,500 electric Rivian vans and 10,000 of these are currently on duty across the U.S.

In 2019, Rivian received a $700 million investment from Amazon and announced a partnership with the electric vehicle (EV) maker to buy 100,000 electric delivery vans. This business agreement aims to complete the deliveries by 2030.

Rivian and Amazon partnership

As of April 2024, these vans have been used to deliver more than 580 million packages in the U.S. However, rolling these vans may be one thing, and managing their day-to-day operations is another.

For that, the company has created its electric van infrastructure in warehouses across the U.S. It has installed more than 17,000 electric vehicle chargers at more than 120 delivery stations.

Rivian electric vans come in two models – Delivery 500 and Delivery 700. The first model has 9,350 lbs and the second model has a 9,500 lbs gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). The estimated range is 161 miles and 153 miles respectively. Delivery 500 brings 2,734 lbs and 2,513 lbs payload on Delivery 700.

The difference between these two vans stands in their length and wheelbase. The Delivery 500 has a 248.5-inch length and a 157.5-inch wheelbase. The Delivery 700 features a 278-inch length and 187-inch wheelbase.
