Rivian R1s and R1T owners have complained about the wireless charger underneath the center console and the electric vehicle (EV) will provide a fix for a better user experience.

An X social media user @OXHarryH1 shared his concern regarding the phone charger. Rivian CEO, RJ Scaringe posted a reply to this user saying that the company is working on this issue.

“Fixing this and the solution is backward compatible so existing vehicles can be upgraded,” wrote Scaringe.

The wireless charger in R1 series vehicles is located on the upper tray of the center console. A similar placement has been selected for the upcoming R2 and R3 series models.

You need to place a phone face-up on the charger to start charging. The charging pad can charge up to two devices simultaneously.

Despite convenient charging capability, the charger apparently brings some inconvenience. Based on the online discussion, Rivian owners have complained that the charging tray doesn’t have a stable hold for the smartphones.

Once you place the phone in a wireless charger, it could easily slip sideways. It stops charging while driving once it is misplaced. This problem is quite common for Rivian R1 owners.

The latest reply from Rivian’s CEO suggests that the new solution will also be available for R1s and R1T models with future inventories. However, it may also be available as a retrofit for existing models.
