Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced that the company is unveiling a Robotaxi product on August 8. The latest revelation comes as he refuted a report on canceling the low-cost model launch next year.

Robotaxi is a self-driving car or driverless taxi, which drives the passenger to a destination without a driver. This type of car has more sensors and cameras than a consumer-grade car.

Customers can use their phone to hail a taxi and it could come and pick them up from their location and then deliver them to the destination.

Market leaders in this field including Cruise and Waymo are currently testing their robotaxis in different parts of the U.S. However, they have their limitations when it comes to utilizing autonomous driving scenarios.

Tesla on the other hand has a vast amount of data with self-driving technologies.

That’s where FSD kicks in. The EV company has been testing this self-developed tech for the past four years and with the recent version, the company has marked a breakthrough in this field.

FSD version 12 has shifted its code from manual to end-to-end neural networks. This helps the system train through raw data and learn more about the driving techniques and scenarios. This version is reportedly the smoothest and smartest among all previous releases.

Some FSD subscribers mentioned that the driver experience is more human-like and requires fewer interventions. Therefore, you can expect FSD to play a major role in making Tesla Robotaxi come true.

It is also an advantage because both Cruise and Waymo aren’t testing the self-driving on Tesla’s scale. That comes to the training part and Tesla already has a large amount of training data to make a Robotaxi functional the way it can fulfill Robotaxi guidelines.

Still, the Tesla chief has not revealed much detail about this Robotaxi but it appears that the unveiling will happen at 2024 AI Day.
