Autopark is now available for Tesla vehicles with the Vision system through a software update and soon the company will improve its speed to provide an optimized parking experience confirms one of its AI officials.

Ashok Elluswamy from Autopilot and the AI team said that Tesla will make Autopark fast over time with upcoming software rollouts.

From 2021 to 2023, Tesla made new changes in cars with radar and ultrasonic sensors (USS). These are replaced with camera-based Tesla Vision and occupancy network respectively.

The Tesla Vision provides visibility for the driver on the road and the occupancy network replaces signals provided by the USS. Afterward, Model S, X, 3, and Y bring a vision-only system.

A negative impact of this transition is related to Autopark, which has been disabled since then. Tesla announced that the feature would return in the future when the occupancy network achieves performance similar to ultrasonic sensors.

The Autopark feature returned to Teslas with a recent upgrade and early demonstrations show that the feature is working fine.

With Autopark enabled, the driver needs to take Tesla to the parking lot at a slow speed. The car will show available parking spaces with signs and highlight the areas.

Tesla users can initiate the parking maneuver by tapping a parking slot highlighted on the display. Once completed the car will disengage autopark.

Alluswamy mentioned that Autopark was initially set up with optimum speed and improvements with the first release coming soon.
