Apple will announce iOS 18 on June 10
Apple is launching iOS 18 on June 10 at its annual developer conference WWDC24 on June 10. This year’s iOS operating system version will focus on artificial intelligence and new upgrades.
Grek Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing shared a WWDC24 teaser with the caption “Mark your calendars for WWDC24, June 10-14. It’s going to be Absolutely Incredible!”.
One thing to note in his tweet is those last two words with the first capital letter, forming “AI”.
Earlier this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook hyped the launch of new AI stuff, as the company finding ways to rejuvenate its downstream iPhone business.
AI, especially generative AI is currently booming across the industry. Software companies including OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google are heavily investing resources to advance their large language model (LLM).
Generative AI is a type of intelligence technology that can comprehend and generate different types of content including text, image, audio, or event video based on text prompts.
Samsung, a top iPhone rival has also inherited this technology for One UI software for the new Galaxy S24 smartphone earlier this year.
Chinese phone companies are also finding their way toward generative AI for their new releases. That brings us to Apple which is preparing to make an entry to this AI tech.
Previous reports reveal that Apple is in talks with Google and OpenAI to use their cloud-based generative AI tech in iOS 18. With this partnership, the Cupertino-based tech company wants to fetch an already completed solution instead of developing one from scratch.
Apple however focusing on improving its on-device computing system for iPhone to process AI apps seamlessly. Apple’s next-generation A18 Pro chip will support iOS 18 in this AI quest later this year when it releases with iPhone 16.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously predicted that the next iOS will bring new home screen customizations. But Apple will have more surprises to unveil with iOS 18 on June 10 at WWDC24.
