xAI Grok launching for all Premium X users this week

xAI, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) company, has confirmed that Grok is launching for all X social media Premium subscribers. Grok is a large language model (LLM) designed and developed by xAI and released in November 2023.

Earlier today, Elon Musk, Founder of xAI announced on X that Grok will be enabled for all premium X subscribers in addition to Premium+ subs.

Currently, when a Premium subscriber accesses Grok the UI shows a message for the user to first subscribe to the “Premium+” tier.

Both of the subscription tiers have differences in pricing and features. The Premium tier starts at $8 per month and Premium+ at $16 per month.

Both of these prices are labeled for the web version and could increase by 30 percent while being subscribed to iOS and Android apps.

Given that there are more Premium tier subscribers than Premium+, the xAI would get more users to test Grok’s ability. This appears to be a major step in its development.

Open Source:

The latest news follows the announcement of making Grok source code open source a week ago. The Grok-1 LLM has 314 billion parameters “Mixture-of-Expert” trained from scratch.

The source code has not been fine-tuned for any specific application such as dialogue.

What is Grok

After the announcement in November, xAI kept the model limited to a beta pool of X users. The company later announced its integration to X social media site and made it available for Premium+ subscribers.

The company labeled the model as “Early Access” which means that the model is still under training and needs more of the data to form perfection in responses.

On the web you can click on the “Grok” on the left side of the menu and on mobile it’s available in the bottom menu bar.

It has a minimalistic interface with a prompt box in the center and you can type in your query/question in that box to get a response.
