iOS 18 to launch new home screen for iPhones
Apple is preparing to launch a new home screen with iOS 18 at the upcoming WWDC 24 annual developer conference for iPhones, says Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in today’s Power On newsletter.
That’s all that Gurman has to say about the new home screen for the next iOS version.
Apple has made several changes to iOS through the past years of development. That includes new features to ease the interactions. However, there has been no major change in the user interface section since iOS 7.
The company kept on polishing the user interface including icons and animations. Yet, nothing could be called “major” in terms of graphical improvements.
There’s no exact answer available, but it might also relate to the new AI technologies that Apple will bring with iOS 18. For instance, Android’s latest version allows users to generate wallpaper using AI. Similar features have a better chance of arriving with iOS 18.
AI Partnerships:
Apple is in conversation with Google, OpenAI, and other prominent AI firms to integrate their technologies. These conversations with big tech companies could bring new hope for the next-gen iPhones.
The Cupertino-based tech giant wants to embed generative AI tech such as Gemini or ChatGPT in its operating system. Apple on the other hand has its own set of native AI app features to launch in the background.
The new business model could save the hassle of managing large chunks of backend processes and server management for new AI features. Sourcing them through Google or OpenAI will help the company to get technology out of the box instead of developing them from scratch.
Besides Google and OpenAI, Apple is also talking to China’s Baidu to use its AI services for Chinese consumers.
None of these plans are finalized according to Gurman but the company is steadily working in this direction. Share your reaction in the comment section below.
