iOS 18 could bring new customizations for app icons
iOS 18 will debut new home screen customizations for app icons to give users more control over the layout of this on-screen element.
Macrumors reported that the iOS 18 will feed some free movement while rearranging an app icon. It’s expected that the next iOS version will bring the ability to create blank spaces, rows, and columns between app icons.
iOS currently only allows app icon movement in a locked layout and cannot be moved out of the layout constraints. To do so, the user needs to tap and hold an app icon and then start the action. But the icon jumps back into the locked row or column as soon as you release the icon.
Besides icons, iPhone users can find, hide, reorder, and remove pages from the home screen.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also shared tidbits about iOS 18 saying there will be more customization for the home screen. However, he didn’t expand the scope of this information any further.
Apple is considering iOS 18 as the biggest iOS update ever. The highlight of the software is heavily influenced by generative AI technology which is currently popular in the market.
Unlike focusing on Gemini or ChatGPT, Apple would use generative AI to increase productivity in apps and iPhone features. These new additions are likely to improve the user experience.
But specifics of the iOS 18 remains unknown while it will release at WWDC 24 somewhere between Q2 and Q3 2024.
