iPhone 16 to trim the display bezel par its predecessor
iPhone 16 may cut the display bezel in comparison to the iPhone 15 series. This new change in screen would allow the user to get an improved viewing experience.
A report from South Korean media claims that Apple will use Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology. The tech aims to reduce the bezel size at the bottom of the display. BRS improves the bezel by rolling up the internal copper wiring to a more compact package.
The Cupertino-based tech company is likely to inherit BRS tech for the iPhone 16 series which will be released later this year.
Apple already applied such test samples for engineering units of iPhone 15 but the results weren’t satisfactory. The company however made some progress with new BRS tech and it’s more applicable than previous versions.
It is explained that the BRS doesn’t seem a complicated technology. It doesn’t mean that the number of common masks in the process will increase but it can be understood as a slight change in module design while reducing the bezel.
Previous information suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro model could increase by 0.2 inches to 6.3 inches compared to 6.1 inches in the iPhone 15 Pro. The Pro Max model will also increase by 0.2 inches to take the screen up to 6.9 inches.
iPhone 16 and 16 Plus on the other hand will retain their screen size to 6.1 and 6.3 inches with LTPS (low-temperature polycrystalline silicon) at a 60Hz refresh rate.
The company will keep on using LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) similar to the iPhone 15.
A person related to this matter said that the new move was to reduce bezels on the top, left, and right sides but the company would only optimize a bit of the bezel on the bottom.
The iPhone maker would also consider improving the heat dissipation system underneath to keep the device cool.
Apple is considering Samsung Display, LG Display, and China’s BOE to fetch OLED panels for the iPhone 16 series but the quantity has not been revealed.
