MG is working on a $25,000 electric car for next year
Automaker MG is now working on an electric car that could cost as low as £20,000 (more than $25,000) to launch by next year.
David Allisson, Head of Products at MG Motor UK said that the company has an active plan to develop a new MG3 sibling. He further revealed that the price of this new model will be around around £20,000.
“There’s an absolute window of opportunity around £20,000. It’s a combination of range, size, and price – and if you hit all those three, you’ll nail it,” he said.
The development of this car is already in progress and there’s a prototype.
The could look like a combustion-powered MG3, which has a length of 4.1 meters. However, it would carry traits from MG4 EV. The carmaker has plans to get a new name for this vehicle but it would carry an MG2 badge.
“If you said MG2 then you wouldn’t be a million miles away; 2 is the next step,” explained Alisson.
At the core of this launch, MG also wants to take the competition to the Stellantis Citreon for e-C3 and Fiat Panda. It’s expected that the new model will boost battery capacity and driving range to outshine its competitors.
This new boost in battery life would be supported by MG’s Chinese parent company SAIC Motor. MG’s head mentioned that the new car would make a debut in the second half of 2025.
Other than these, the company has plans to expand its current offerings in the UK including replacements for the ZS and HS SUVs and the launch of the Cyberster Roadster.
There’s also a consideration of bringing a sportier trim level to the British market that could be added above the existing trophy range-topper.
