iOS 18 and macOS 15 to bring new accessibility features

Apple is reportedly developing new accessibility features for the upcoming iOS 18 for iPhones and macOS 15 for Mac devices. It aims to simplify user interactions and provide a better user experience.

Macrumors brought the new information saying that the iOS 18 is codenamed “Crystal” and macOS 15 is codenamed “Glow”. Both of these will bring new features to the accessibility section of the settings.

Here are some of the new additions.

iOS 18 will allow users to create custom phrases and associate them with a setting to enable or disable with a voice command. This feature is called “Adaptive Voice Shortcuts” and it is currently revealed to support VoiceOver, Voice Control, Zoom, and more.

Live Speech will get new organized phrase categories. With this feature, users can name a category and associate it with an icon. Once created, the user can add desired phrases to the new category.

macOS will be adding adjustable Text Size for more applications. The feature is already available in macOS devices and allows users to set a custom text size for each application.

The custom font feature is under development and there’s no confirmation whether the company would release it with the final build. There’s another accessibility feature for eye-tacking.

We hope to see these new iOS 18 accessibility features at the 2024 WWDC. However, it’s hard to tell which one will make its place in the final release.
